The Kansas Hawking Club was formally established in the summer of 1992, when the first meeting was held in Junction City, Kansas. About 15 falconers from around the state attended, and the general rules for the club were discussed. Phil Kenney became the club’s first President and Scott Johnson the Vice President.
A Kansas Hawking Club membership is open to all who have an interest in birds of prey and the sport of falconry. Above all, members must realise that falconers will always be a small group, so each member must make sure his or her actions reflect positively on fellow falconers. Kansas Hawking Club members must respect and obey the state and federal laws governing falconry. They must also make sure that their practice of the sport respects the life of the raptors they hunt with and the prey they pursue, as well as the animals they use for hawk food and training purposes.
The Kansas Hawking Club will try to be an effective voice for Kansas falconers at the state level and assist the North American Falconry Association on the national level whenever we can. Besides dealing with the legal side of falconry, we will also be a social organization that will try to have several hawking meets and picnics each year. This will allow members and prospective falconers a chance to get together to hunt and talk about the sport.
